The Impossible Burger™
Ramona’sis among the first and few vegetarian restaurants to carry the Impossible Burger™. To answer the often asked question, “What’san Impossible Burger™?” and; to clear up misconceptions, we want to share with you the story of the Impossible Burger™. The Impossible Burger™ is a burger made from plants and is dairy as well as nut free. It contains gluten and soy. It contains a proteinheme, that has the same flavor as meat. This burger was invented byPatrick O. Brown, M.D., Ph.D. and founder. Brown and his group spent 5 years researching every aspect of the unique sensory experience of meat, from how it looks raw to how it sizzles and what happens when we taste a burger. Then, the precise flavors, textures, aromas, and nutrition of ground beef were recreated — using only plants. Byunderstanding meat at the molecular level, a juicy, delicious veganburger was made.
The Impossible Burger™ is made from simple ingredients: wheat protein, coconut oil, potato protein, and heme. What is heme? Heme is the protein responsible for the characteristic of taste and aroma of meat. It catalyzes all the flavors when meat is cooked. Heme is exceptionally abundant in animal muscle and plants. Brown and company discovered how to take heme from plants and produce it using fermentation. Adding heme to the Impossible Burger™ makes it taste just like a meat burger.
Compared to a burger made from cows, making an Impossible Burger™ uses about 1/20th the land,1/4th the water, and produces 1/8th the greenhouse gas emissions. For the environmentally conscious, Impossible Burger™ is a great choice!
